Celebrating staff at South Walney Juniors

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of staff at South Walney Junior School who have been recognised at this year’s SCMAT Staff Awards.

The annual awards celebrate colleagues from across the Trust who embody SCMAT’s aims of Inspire, Succeed and Contribute, recognising the dedication, professionalism and care they bring to their roles every day. We are incredibly proud of our staff and the positive difference they make to the lives of our pupils, families and the wider school community.

Unsung Hero (Succeed) – Angela Anderson

Angela Anderson received the Unsung Hero Award in recognition of her exceptional commitment, flexibility and dedication to South Walney Junior School. As a highly experienced member of the Year 6 team, Angela provides invaluable support across the curriculum, helping pupils to succeed in English and Maths while bringing creativity and enthusiasm to subjects such as Art and French. Whether stepping in to teach classes at short notice or supporting colleagues wherever needed, Angela approaches every challenge with professionalism and positivity. Her willingness to go above and beyond makes her a truly deserving recipient of this award.

Community Champion (Contribute) – Matthew Tongue

Matthew Tongue was recognised with the Community Champion Award for his outstanding contribution to the wider life of the school. While covering the role of PE Subject Leader, Matthew embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm, ensuring continuity and leading the subject with confidence. From working closely with external sports coaches and organising extra-curricular activities to managing the PE budget and supporting colleagues, Matthew has made a significant contribution to enriching sporting opportunities for pupils. His commitment and willingness to take on additional responsibility have been greatly appreciated.

Inspirational Innovator (Inspire) – Julie Williams

Julie Williams received the Inspirational Innovator Award in recognition of her exceptional support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. Through her extensive knowledge, expertise and dedication, Julie has maintained the school’s excellent communication with parents and external agencies, ensuring every child receives the support they need to flourish. Her ability to find solutions, offer guidance and advocate for pupils has been invaluable, and her commitment continues to inspire colleagues across the school.

SCMAT Special Award – Zena Lines

A special SCMAT Award was presented to Headteacher Zena Lines in recognition of her exceptional leadership and the positive impact she has on the entire school community. Zena places the wellbeing of pupils, staff and families at the heart of everything she does, leading with kindness, integrity and compassion. Always approachable and supportive, she inspires others through her vision, dedication and unwavering commitment to helping everyone achieve their very best. Her leadership makes South Walney Junior School a wonderful place to learn and work, and this special recognition is richly deserved.
