A Barrow-based education Trust is seeking volunteers who want to help run the town’s schools to sign up to a new campaign.
South Cumbria Multi-Academy Trust has launched a drive to find trustees and governors from a wide range of backgrounds to support the education sector.
The Trust is particularly keen to hear from anyone in the community with a finance/accountancy or secondary teaching background to join its Board of Trustees.
It also has a range of vacancies across its six schools – Ormsgill, Vickerstown, Newbarns, South Walney Juniors, Cambridge Primary and Chetwynde.
Trust CEO Professor Andrew Wren, who is a former governor of Broughton School, said the role can be very rewarding.
“Being a trustee or school governor is an opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of children and young people.
“The education sector is dynamic and is a chance to learn new skills, as well as gain an insight into the workings of schools and make a difference in your own community.
“We are particularly looking for someone with expertise in finance and accountancy and someone with secondary teaching experience to join the Trust board. We also want to hear from younger people aged 18 to 40 to apply as they are often underrepresented and can bring fresh ideas.”
Trustees/Governors can be from a wide range of backgrounds and sign up to volunteer their time to help schools be the best they can be.
They help set and deliver objectives and, as well as regular meetings, they can be involved in all aspects of school life.
