Newly-appointed Chetwynde School head pupils to speak at Open Evening

Chetwynde School’s newly-appointed head pupils are preparing for their first major responsibility as the school prepares to hold its Open Evening.

The team will give a presentation about the school at the event for kindergarten, primary and secondary prospective pupils and parents on Thursday 2nd October from 5pm to 7pm.

Head Girl Chloe Sharp and Head Boy Milan Nair, supported by deputies Ellie Walker and Oliver Wielkopolski, are already leading the way in shaping ideas that will enhance school life at the Rating Lane school in Barrow.

Milan said one of his key aims was to strengthen the school council and ensure students’ ideas are heard. “We want to be the student voice and put forward changes that pupils want, as well as new ideas,” he said.

Ellie added that she was excited to be a trusted voice of the school community and having a direct link with the teachers.

Chloe said one area they were considering strengthening was the introduction of lunchtimes activities open to all students.

“We would like to have clubs so people have more structured activities at lunchtime for example the chance to do sports they wouldn’t necessarily do in PE, like tennis or cricket, and maybe start an art club run by the prefects,” she said.

Oliver said as a leadership team, they would be working together to set an example for others by championing the school’s values.

“We will be leading by example to promote respect, responsibility and resilience – making sure pupils across the school see how we incorporate these values into daily life.”

Headteacher Steve Jefferson will also speak at Chetwynde School Open Evening when visitors can tour the historic buildings, speak to current pupils and meet staff.

“We are looking forward to welcoming future pupils and their parents from across the community to our fantastic school, which offers a unique all-through education from aged 3 to 16,” he said. “They will be able to experience the family feel that we are well-known for and the positive and safe learning environment in which our children succeed.”
