A new partnership between South Cumbria Multi-Academy Trust and the University of Cumbria is boosting recruitment to primary teaching.
SCMAT’s Initial Teacher Training programme is open for applicants who want to train as primary teachers at Chetwynde School in Barrow.
They study for a one-year University of Cumbria Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE in Primary) which includes Qualified Teacher Status, enabling them to pursue a teaching career.
The benefits of our programme:
Barrow-based with no out of area travel to place of study;
Innovative model of 3 days classroom/2 days study enabling students to put learning straight into practice each week;
Offered through the University of Cumbria with specialist teaching;
Placement in local schools – grow your network;
Guaranteed interview on successful completion of the course.
The Initial Teacher Training programme launched in September 2025 and applications for 2026 entry are open now. Placements are available across Trust schools.
