The Primary MegaMAT Games inter-school netball competition is under way with primary pupils from 10 schools taking part in a tournament across two sites.
Pupils from Yarlside, Dane Ghyll, Chetwynde, Victoria Academy, South Walney Juniors, Parkside, St Columbas, Newbarns, St Pius and Holy Family are competing for the title.
It is being held over four weeks at the sports halls at Chetwynde School and Barrow Sixth Form College, with Year 11 students from Chetwynde helping out as referees.
Organiser Katy Costa, Chetwynde’s Phase 2 Lead and PE teacher, said it is open to all schools to help pupils build their confidence, leadership and teamwork through sport.
The Primary MegaMAT games is backed by Furness College-led South Cumbria Multi-Academy Trust to offer a full calendar of multi-sports competitions including hockey, netball, swimming and a host of other sports. Points are accumulated for each of the events coming up with a winner declared in the summer.
